UAE Dirham

The United Arab Emirates Dirham is the currency of the United Arab Emirates. The currency sign is د.إ and the currency code is AED. The dirham is subdivided into 100 fils (فلس). The dirham can also have abbreviations such as DH or DHs.

It was introduced on 19 May 1973 and have served seven emirates in United Arab namely Abu Dhabi, Ajmān, Dubai, Fujairah, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The name ‘dirham’ was derived from the Greek word, Drachmae meaning handful. The AED replaced the Qatar and Dubai riyal at par.
